Yesterday while listening to WBEZ, my local NPR affialiate, there were two interesting pieces on Talk of the Nation/Science Friday on digital libraries. First was Libraries Enter the Digital Age. It was news to me that Project Gutenberg Founder Michael Hart made the first entry to that project in 1971! This dealt with a issues surrounding copyright and censorship and was more of a general getting the public up to speed talk, but still really cool.
Later the show moved on to the Encyclopedia of Life, a new project just announced by scientists to create a digital library with information on every known species on the planet. As my interests are in medical/science librarianship, this project is particularly fascinating to me.
Both were interesting and well worth a listen. As someone who is just getting ready to start her MLIS, I found it very inspiring and it made me start to get excited about classes beginning.

I love Ira Flatow and Science Friday.
The encyclopedia of life sounds like something I could suck hours, days, weeks out of my life.
Glad you found it inspiring!
